A message for Readers from the VNC Publisher

Dear Readers -- VNC recently entered a brief transition period, moving toward a Membership-access model for Venture Nashville Connections, entering its 9th year of service. That transition is coming to a close.

This move is a step forward -- one I've often been encouraged to take by Readers with proven savvy in their own fields -- because it would allow us to sustain and improve our service to you. For those who have already been receiving our news alerts, this change equates to about a dime a day, and you'll receive a Membership invitation when you have reached the limit of free reads.

You may also subscribe immediately, via this link. If you have questions, please let me know via the contact information below.

Now, as at our beginning, this work has been encouraged by responsive Readers, people who truly engage with what they're reading. Only a few weeks after VNC began with a simple blog in 2008, the response convinced us to shift quickly to a full news site. I can still tell you who those early encouraging emails came from, and how they inspired us.

Many of you have said you value VNC's deliberately selective coverage, particularly our focus on opportunities, challenges and interesting people, and you've told me directly that you value the fact that we often track down things that are off the beaten path, or simply under-covered.

Your responses have reinforced my belief that even in the Digital Era, there's a place for old-fashioned journalism, and for reporters determined to get a little better at their craft, everyday, pushing the envelope when needed, but always keeping an eye on the tenets of accuracy, fairness and balance.

You, and people who are sources of stories, freelancers, technology advisers and others are essential to making this all work.

Particularly in these times, I want you to know that solid, responsible and energetic journalism remains important within Venture Nashville, just as it does among journalists with other media outlets here in Nashville, and far beyond.

Thank you for your support.
