PINPTR, the VU School of Engineering-linked positioning startup that's all about precision, has fine-tuned its capital schema: During the Jumpstart Foundry Demo Day on Aug. 21, Co-founder Will Hedgecock announced its $1.4MM total Seed-round goal. Now, it's going to happen in three phases. First, it has nearly completed a smallish friends-family-founders round, to get it through most of 1Q15. It's already had serious approaches from nearly a dozen individual and institutional investors, and those will be held in abeyance for the large phase. It'll go to market initially with consumer technology used by golfers for green-reading, or by skiiers and others for tracking. Subsequently, it'll move into more security- and safety-oriented sectors, possible related to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, drones) and collision dection and avoidance (automotive and related). Meanwhile, the team is deal with such things as high-altitude concerns regarding development of its API. Earlier Pinptr coverage here. VNC
