UBIQUITOUS Nashville Angel Crom Carmichael has confirmed he's been a founding investor in the Bay Area-based Seraph Group since its inception.

Carmichael revealed today he invested in Seraph, which has also raised five funds. He is not an investor in those funds, per se, but rather in the managing partner, Seraph Group LLC, he told VNC.

Seraph's website says it has made 13 new investments and 5 follow-ons in the past 12 months, and has 172 members, with deal count since inception standing at 44. Carmichael didn't say how much he's invested in Seraph.

Founder Tuff Yen, an entrepreneur and a former Hambrecht & Quist principal who holds a Yale MBA and a UC-Berkeley degree in microbiology and genetics, has previously said he intends Seraph to engage with thousands of Angels, globally.

The group also says it makes investments of $500K to $1MM in high-growth companies, and lists categories of interest at biotech-healthcare, consumer Internet, consumer products, enterprise software, industrial products, mobile apps and mobile-webb. Its portfolio page is here.

Seraph says it assembles investment committees for such sectors as digital payments, medical devices, semiconductors and other special targets.

Carmichael, who said several years ago he was cleaning-up his large Angel-investment portfolio, said today he's made several investments in the past 18 months, including taking a stake in ticketing startup Tandum, which has, as Cromwell often does, been flying low.

Carmichael said he has perhaps 40 active investments, right now, including 30 that require active involvement to varying degrees, and quite a few that will require follow-on investment in the next 36 months. He also is looking ahead to perhaps a half-dozen exits in the next three years.
