People: Paul Ney joins Waddey & Patterson

Paul Ney, formerly director of Nashville Mayor Karl Dean's Office of Economic and Community Development, has joined Nashville law firm Waddey & Patterson PC.

According to a release from the firm this morning, Ney will be of counsel to the firm’s litigation and counseling teams.

“We are proud to welcome Paul to Waddey & Patterson,” said Ed Lanquist, president and managing shareholder of the firm.  “Paul is a well known and respected attorney in Nashville and throughout the U.S.  His knowledge and experience will allow us to better serve the needs of our clients.  We are very pleased that he is now our colleague.”

Commenting in the release, Ney said, in part, “I have known Ed, Jack (Waddey) and Mark (Patterson) for quite some time. Waddey & Patterson is a well respected and accomplished firm; it is an honor to be associated with them.”

Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development in 2008, Ney was deputy general counsel at the U.S. Department of Defense, Washington, D.C., for about 15 months.

Earlier, Ney was a partner at Nashville law firm Trauger, Ney and Tuke for fifteen years. There, he practiced general civil and business law with a concentration in business and commercial litigation, insurance defense, administrative law and alternative dispute resolution.  While with that firm, according to the release, Ney was retained as litigation counsel to the Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission, the Tennessee Regulatory Authority, and the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency.

Ney earned his bachelor's at Cornell University in biology and earned his JD and MBA at Vanderbilt University. He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and a fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, and a member of the Nashville Bar Association and a fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation.  He is a former president of the Nashville Bar Association.

He is admitted to practice by the Tennessee Bar, California Bar, U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals; U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
